About
Denis is an expert in vulnerable road user safety, public health researcher, Iraq war veteran, activist and artist.
I am turned on by looking at a problem and seeing how it can be solved or mitigated through organizational or rigorous scientific study. Throw out the dogma; what does the research say? I have concluded, despite all the societal or structural limitations, human behavior is ultimately the cause of most traffic fatalities and other public health issues.
My goal in public health research is to see how we alter human behavior so that we can mitigate death and disability: whether we can do this by seeing what colors people can use to protect cyclists on the road, by showing how exercise is so vital in public health, or by numerous other activities.
When I am not at work, you can usually find me pumping iron in the gym or working on my latest art project in my studio. I get a rush when I’ve finished a workout or an art project that I have put a lot of emotion into.
I love working on and speaking about public health issues and encourage anyone to reach out to me as an individual or to be part of a team or to lead one. I have extensive experience working and living in Europe and the Middle East for over 20 years, so I feel comfortable working in a foreign environment. I am open to traveling to research institutes worldwide to accomplish this.
